The construction sector is the backbone of economic growth, driving investment, job creation, and infrastructure development. However, in Pakistan, the industry is facing severe roadblocks, with hundreds of projects stalled in approval processes, effectively freezing billions of rupees in potential investment.
It is a great privilege to be appointed as a member of the Prime Minister’s Task Force on Housing, dedicated to revitalizing the construction sector. This task force, led by the Federal Minister for Housing along with other key officials, aims to address the critical issues hindering the industry’s progress.
One of the most pressing concerns for builders today is the rampant problem of land grabbing and encroachment, which has disrupted numerous projects. In recent months, we have engaged with top government and security officials to find concrete solutions to these challenges.
The overall situation has become increasingly difficult due to law and order issues, rising taxes, and skyrocketing construction costs. With foreign investment drying up and developers unable to deliver projects on time, urgent action is needed to restore stability and investor confidence.
To tackle land-related disputes, we have held multiple discussions with government authorities, who have assured us that measures are being taken to resolve these issues. Additionally, officials have committed to arranging a high-level meeting in the coming days to address the concerns of builders and developers.
ABAD has also strongly opposed the recent directive issued by the Gwadar Development Authority (GDA), which mandates detailed disclosures for housing projects in Gwadar and their clients.
Moreover, ABAD has stood firmly against the harassment of its members by the Anti-Corruption Department, advocating for fair and transparent regulatory practices.
For over five decades, we have worked in close collaboration with government institutions, leveraging our expertise to streamline industry operations. Our commitment to protecting the interests of builders and developers remains unwavering.
We remain hopeful that in the coming months, improvements in law and order, regulatory processes, and government policies will create a more favorable environment for the construction sector, allowing stalled projects to move forward and ensuring sustainable growth for the industry.
